SUNDARBANS
The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO inscribed 'The Sundarbans'
in the World Heritage List. With a cobweb of innumerable creeks,
canals the tributaries of the river Ganga and 54 small islands
the Sundarbans is the natural heritage of West Bengal and is
considered as the largest Estuarine Forest in the world. The
dense mangroves in the mud flats, the birds sanctuaries in
Lothian island and Sajnekhali, the hatchery cum sanctuary of
crocodiles at Bhagabatpur, the in exhaustible natural stock of
seeds of a large number of brachish water fish, prawn and crab,
the dense forest at Kalashdwip and, above all, the Toyal Bengal
Tigers in the Tiger Reserve, all taken together offer an enigma.
